For current volunteers: this is where we keep our lesson plans. During the semester, when you need to preview a lesson before teaching it, you can find your assigned lesson here.
If you would like to submit a lesson plan idea of your own, please fill out the form below. Make sure to look over our current lesson plans for ideas and to avoid redundancies. If you would like more volunteer hours with us, we invite you to write the lesson plan yourself after approval!
Lesson teaching/planning guidelines
We want to make sure that our lessons are up-to-date with current scientific knowledge, are kid-friendly, and encourage healthy, sustainable practices. So we here are a few general rules to keep in mind.
And for the kids:
- There are no "bad" foods.
- All foods can be eaten in moderation.
- Healthy food can and should be enjoyed.
- You should find a good variety of foods you enjoy to implement into your diet.
And for the kids:
- They love to be involved, and they love to share! When you are teaching, ask them to share what they know, hold pictures for you, answer questions, illustrate concepts, etc. Anything to get them actively involved in the learning process.
- Be enthusiastic! If you love eating healthy, they will be able to tell, and they will want to be healthy too.
- Be patient. Kids have a LOT of energy and they will probably not sit still for all your lessons, especially the younger kids. But use this energy to your advantage. Find activities that allow them to get up and move around and help you with the lesson. Get them excited about healthy living!
